Over the past 8 years since I’ve been sharing this process with high performers I’ve noticed 3 clear stages:
- I see I’m at a consistent 6/10, I don’t know what to do with it, it makes me feel worse, I want to ignore and forget about it.
So I numb and escape with distractions, including getting even more busy with work in an attempt to cover the discomfort with more success. - At some point life has a way to dial up the discomfort level with the 6/10, so I get to really see it now, get angry and frustrated about it to the point of now having enough fuel to actually want to do something about it.
- You make a conscious choice “I don’t want to be living at a 6/10 anymore”, and so the real work begins.
I’m here for all of these stages as they are wonderful experiences in themselves.
If you’re in stage 3, amazing, this is the place to be!
